Earning money from Ads

January 15, 2010 in How to Use Admin, Revenue Sharing by admin

Blog.co.in enables you to display Ads on your blog pages / posts. You get paid when visitors click on these Ads. We support multiple Ad networksto choose from, for displaying the Ads on your blog. Ads are configured to blend-in with your blog’s color theme.

Note: Inserting javascript code with-in the post / page content doesn’t work.

How does it work?

Once you have provided the publisher details, your Ads will automatically start showing up on the blog. We serve Ads in 2/3 sharing mode. Meaning, when your blog page is viewed, out of 3 Ad slots displayed, 2 of them will contain your ads. As an exception, on the blog’s homepage only 2 ads are being served; in the future we plan to show no ads on the blog homepages. Read how homepage ads on blogs have minimal impact on ad revenue.

If you have not provided your publisher details, our ads will be displayed on your blog, for supporting the free services offered by Blog.co.in.

Blog.co.in is not affiliated with any of the Ad networks in any manner. It is your responsibility to follow the terms and conditions and to maintain your account with the Ad Networks. Your earnings are directly paid by the respective companies.

How effective is it?

Good content is the key for any blog to be successful. So, write good topics / articles that the visitors find interesting or useful. More the visitors, more the chances of them clicking thru Ads.

Keep in mind that, you need to have at least 50 informative posts on your blog, before you can even think of expecting search engine traffic (visitors finding your blog using search engines). This is not a benchmark , but just what we learnt from our experience.

How to Configure?

Login to your blog’s Admin console and navigate to ‘Settings’ -> ‘Manage Ads’ page, from the top menu. List of supported Ad networks will be shown and make sure to select the Ad network you want to use, from the drop-down box.

Google AdSense [Recommended]

If you are planning to display Google AdSense Ads on your blog, you will need to provide the AdSense publisher ID in the space provided on the ‘Manage Ads’ page. After entering the details, click on ‘Save Changes’ button.

(We won’t be able to cover ’how to create AdBrite Ad Zones’). Obtain the code for each of these Ad zones, and extract the URL from the generated script. Enter all the 4 URLs in the spaces provided, with NO QUOTES. Then click on ‘Save Changes’ button.

See the pictures below to know what URL you need to use and how it looks after configuring.

Categories vs Tags

January 15, 2010 in How to Use Admin, Revenue Sharing by admin

Categories allow the broad grouping of post topics but when you wanted to describe a post in more specific terms you had to use more categories. That lead to very long category lists inside the blog, very long lists in sidebars.

Tags are similar, but instead of a list of words to choose from, you write them in a list (separated by commas) in a text box below your post. They are free form words and generally describe your post in more detail.

For example, a post titled “Last Night At Burger King” might be filed under the “Dinner” category, but could have tags like, “burger, chicken fries, chocolate shake, dr. pepper”.

Here are some common questions and answers:

Is Tag the same as tag ?
Yes. Capitals letters do not change a tag.

Is there a way to manage tags? Can I see a list of all the tags I have used?

No, there is no way to view the tags you have used.

Is there a limit to the number of tags I can have?
No.

Urls.
A post into a category ‘food’, the url looks like this:

http://blog.co.in/category/food/

The same post using the tag ‘food’ will look like this:

http://blog.co.in/tag/food/

A post into the category ‘food’ and with the tag ‘rice’ will look like this:

http://blog.co.in/category/food/

http://blog.co.in/tag/rice/

Is there any advantage to using tags or categories or both?
Not here at Blog.co.in and not for any search engines, no.

Do I have to use tags?
It is entirely optional.

Will categories be removed?
They are here to stay.

Have any links to any posts anywhere on my blog been changed by this?
They are all okay. We are intelligently redirecting your old URLs.

How do I delete a tag?How do I rename a tag?
- You would need to find each post you had made with the tag and make the changes.

Are categories and tags hierarchical?
Categories can be treated that way by making categories children of another. This has always been the case. Tags exist in their own right and have no set relationship to anything else.

I had a lot of categories. Can I delete those and just use tags from now? What will happen to my existing posts?
You can delete them but all your posts will go into the default category. You will have to edit every post and add back the tags.

Post Options – Post Timestamp

January 15, 2010 in How to Use Admin, Revenue Sharing by admin

Normally when you click Publish the post you wrote gets published immediately. You may want to change that though.

Posting to the Past

Check the box in the Post Timestamp area and set the time and date of the post to a time before now. Click Publish. The post will publish immediately but it will be back in your blog, not on the front of your blog.

Posting to the Future

Check the box in that area and set the time and date in the future. Now click Publish. The post will NOT be published until the time and date you set. At that time it will appear automatically.
